About Gilmoor Vets Limited
Mission Statement
At Gilmoor Vets Limited, we are committed to helping people and their pets in leading happy and healthy lives.
We strive to provide a professional, compassionate and efficient service to our clients whose animals, both companion and working, are our prime concern. We aim to achieve a working environment that is positive, progressive, informative, cheerful and helpful for both clients and colleagues alike.
It is not our intention to provide the cheapest veterinary service but one that reflects the high standards of veterinary care provided. The fees charged should represent value for money, for provision of top quality professional services, seven days a week at a price that is fair to both clients and staff.
We constantly strive to improve our service and encourage continuous training for all of our staff.
We hope that our standard of care and the service provided encourages clients to return to us whenever the need arises.
History
Gilmoor Vets Limited was set up as a 100% Small Animal Practice by Frances Allen to provide the pet owners of County Durham with excellent client and patient care.
Gilmoor Veterinary Clinic opened in July 1988 as the first dedicated small animal practice in Durham City, with one vet working in Marshall Terrace, Durham which is 50 yards from our present premises. We have now developed into a multi-Vet practice in 3 sites, with branch surgeries at Spennymoor and Doxford Park, Sunderland.
Present Day
In March 2000 we moved from the original site to our present premises a converted pub, hence the name (Hare and Hounds Veterinary Centre). The benefits of adequate car parking for staff and clients were immediately felt by all and the additional surgical and animal care facilities have enabled more animals to be cared for by our dedicated staff.
We have support staff of 18 including qualified and student veterinary nurses, staff in theatre and kennels, office and managerial staff and dedicated reception staff at all 3 sites.
We are a first-opinion, general, small animal practice, with the facilities to provide a complete service for our patients from initial discussion with the owners through diagnosis, surgery, post-operative care from pre-natal to death, seven days a week. All emergencies, surgical work and hospitalisation takes place at the main surgery in Durham.
If we are unable to provide the most specialised treatment ourselves we will arrange referral to a recognised expert in the appropriate field, whether conventional or alternative.
All sites run consultations by appointment to provide an efficient service, limit waiting time and as far as possible, ensure that you see the same veterinary surgeon. We prefer to see your animals at the surgery where all facilities are to hand but home visits can be arranged whenever necessary.
We are recognised as a Veterinary Nurse Training Centre and our aim is to continue to train students, with another having entered the RCVS scheme in Summer 2007.
The Future
The future is exciting. The new premises have been designed and built to hospital standard and we may put in place the administrative work to achieve hospital status in the future.
We intend to continue to improve the standard of care and service offered to our clients and their pets. Please let us know what would help to improve the service that we provide for you and your pets. You can do this at the surgery or online by sending your suggestions via our Contacts page.
